In
Term Two we will be learning........
- Strategies to help
us read hard words and understand what we are reading.
- Statistics in
Maths, moving onto Multiplication and Division later in the term.
- In Writing, we will
be exploring persuasive writing, moving onto Speech and Character writing later
in the term
- In PE, we will be learning
skills in swimming. Also, every Friday we will be taking part in a syndicate
sports rotation, focusing on attacking and defending skills.
- Using a range of
skills on Powerpoint in ICT, including making interesting presentations using
timings, slide transitions, slide effects and inserting pictures.
- For the year we
will be focusing in on 'Journeys' for our Topic. This term we are heading into “Origins
and Identity” where we will be looking at the cultures in our backyard.
- In Maori, we will
be working on greetings and responses in everyday situations.
To help ourselves
improve our reading skills we will be reading every night at home for at least
10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes it is alright for people to read to us at night
time too! Students will take home a reading log to be signed every night along
with their homework.
Homework will also be
given out every Monday and will need to be back at school on Friday. Homework
will include some spelling and grammar rules, a reading task and some basic
facts to practice and learn!
Some awesome things to try at home are….
- Practice your basic facts by playing card or dice games. For example, if you
are learning your two times tables, you roll one dice and the number that comes
up you multiply by two!
- Read some recipes and
have a go at cooking. Have fun reading the numbers and measuring the
ingredients and have some yummy food to munch on at the end!'
- Read your book out
loud and practice using different voices for different characters!
- After reading,
write down some questions you would like to find out about the characters or
the book you've just read!
- Use the five W’s
(who, what, when, where and why) to write what the text was about and the
characters in it.
- When you reach an unknown
word, find the meaning in a dictionary. You can also use a thesaurus to find
other words that mean the same!
- Be creative and
imaginative and write some interesting stories while practicing your editing
skills (full stops, capital letters and spelling)!
Make
sure you pop in from time to time to see what is new in our fabulous classroom
and all the great learning we have been doing!!
Thanks
for stopping by.
