Room 23, An Amazing Place to Be!

Room 23 is an amazing place to be.  We are learning to be motivated learners, who seek out new knowledge and push ourselves towards excellence.

We have started our year with an exciting unit called 'Journey's of Learning' this unit has helped us to get to know each other, and helped us to set up our expectations.  We have talked a lot about what good learners do, and how we are all going to help each other along the way.

Our Hearts and Keys are being finalised as you read!  These are qualities that we believe good learners and citizens show and have.

Make sure you check back soon to see which values we think are most important!

We have also started our learning around 'Violence Free Begins with Me'.  This programme teaches us all about safe choices, feelings and peaceful relationships with others.  We are having great conversations, and doing some great learning about ourselves and each other.

During Mathematics we are working hard to fill gaps in our number knowledge.  This learning is crucial as set-up for successful strategy problem solving.  Play some maths games at home and help your child to learn any basic facts they are struggling with. There are lots of fun ways to boost your child's performance in maths.

  • Read big numbers together from the newspaper.
  • Do some baking and measure out ingredients as you go.
  • Talk about prices at the supermarket and how much change you would get.
  • Search the internet for maths games - there are literally thousands of free sites.

Poetry is our focus for writing this term.  We are currently creating vivid descriptions around 'The Loves of Our Lives'.  We will be learning to use a whole heap of descriptive tools like similes, metaphor, alliteration, rhyme etc.  Our first poems should be ready for website publishing this week.  Exciting.

Reading groups are now up and running!  We will be working hard together to meet our reading goals that we have set together.  Parents and other family members are a huge help in this process.  Have a read together each night, and ask each other some questions about the book.  If you child gets stuck when they are reading words ask them to use their strategies to try to figure out either how to say the word, or it's meaning.

Within P.E. we are learning to work together as a team during our 'Adventure Based Learning' unit.  Check out some of our 'Moonball' pictures below.

Thanks for checking out our website.  Please pop in if you are in at school to say hello and to check out our learning.  You are so welcome!
