In Room 4, we have various Learning Areas that we can go to during our Literacy Block. We have a Writing Centre, Handwriting Centre, Speaking and Listening Centre, Word and Letter Centre, Poetry Centre, Design Centre and a Class Library. During Guided Reading the students in Room 4 are grouped according to their stage or needs. We have been using handy reading strategies such as thinking about the story, checking the picture, sounding out and looking for chunks when we are learning to read new words. We are learning to ask reflective questions such as: Does that make sense?

We have been learning some spelling strategies that we can use when learning new words. We have been learning to hear, name and write sounds in words.

This Term our we are learning about Being Strong, " Kia Kaha". We have been working together as a team.

Early this week Constable Niki came to talk to us about being "Strong". We talked about safe and unsafe actions. We talked about our class treaty and how we could make our class a fun and safe place.

Have a walk through!

We have buddy class every week where we meet with a senior class and work together!

We share news in our buzz groups every day.

Each child gets a turn to be a reporter where they are to share their news. Their news must be told, not written. It could be a photo, a newspaper clipping, a special memory, something from the garden or a favourite book.

Our Class Treaty!

We have talked about what makes a good classroom. We talked about being fair and having a positive attitude towards school property, learning and towards our peers.

We love speaking and listening!

Our Teacher visits the library each week. She chooses fun read-along stories that we can listen to and follow.

Room 4 is filled with fun learning experiences

We like working at the design centre.

We like working at the design centre.

This area has words, cards, various paper, glitter and fun art materials that we can use to construct our creative, imaginative ideas.

Group work in progress!

When reading, there is no one right way but keep in mind that the enjoyment of the text is of paramount importance.

Fun activities
